The Real Folk Blues

By Adara

Disclaimers: I don't own Slayers. The song "The Real Folk Blues" is performed by Mai Yamane and the Seatbelts and is the ending theme to Cowboy Bebop. I don't own Cowboy Bebop, either. Or the song. So there. Buahahahaha! The lyrics are in Japanese simply because I couldn't find a decent translation. The song is suitably depressing. Yeah. This is a sequel to my in-English depressing Val songfic, Duvet. And yes, I am aware that I skipped about 5 lines near the end... mostly because the fic just logically ended there... ::sweatdrop::

"Mother?" Valterria ulCopt asked cautiously. Firia was appraising a teacup of some sort- the pottery shop was her life, so much so that she never really stopped working.

Amari ni mo toki wa sugi te shimatta

"Yes, Val?" Firia asked absently, her eyes never leaving their examination of the piece.
"I want to ask you something." Val continued quietly.
"Yes, Val, I'm listening." Firia continued to study the cup.

"Who am I?"

Iyasenumama kaze ga fuiteru

"What?" Firia put the pottery down and looked at Val in surprise.
"Who am I?" Val repeated.

Hitotsu no me de asu o mite

"Now, that's a rather silly question." Firia forced a laugh, "You know who you are. You're my son."
She picked the teacup back up.

Hitotsu no me de kinou mitsumeteru
"If I'm your son, then who's my father?" Val asked suddenly.
"What?" Firia's response was more shocked yet.

Kimi no ai no yurikagode

"I asked who my father was. You've always said I was your son. Were you lying?"
Crash. The teacup slipped from Firia's hands and shattered on the floor.

Mo ichido yasurakani nemuretara

"Now, whatever gave you that idea?" Firia stared at him, ignoring the shards of pottery around her feet.
"The fact I'm not a gold Ryuzoku, perhaps?" Val snapped. "Or that I used to be a Mazoku, or-" He broke off. She might write the first two off to temporary insanity, but Gods, the last reason- she'd think he was some kind of pervert if he was wrong!

Kawaita hitomi de dareka na itekure

"Valterria ulCopt, what has gotten into you?" Firia asked him, suddenly concerned, "Do you have a fever?" She put a hand against his forehead.

"I remember."

Honto no kanashimi ga shiritaidake

"I remember! I remember Gaav-sama, and that damned Metallium, and the fucking Dra-Matta, I remember-" Val was cut off as Firia's palm met his cheek with a smack.
"No!" Firia exclaimed, "You can't, you CAN'T!"
"I remember- I remember... this." Val whispered, and brought his lips to hers.

Doro no kawa ni sukatta jinsei mo warukuwanai
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING, VALTERRIA?" Firia pushed him away.

Ichido kiri de owarunara

"My name isn't Valterria. It's Valgarv."
